Cross country

Cross country- some people love it, some people hate it. I am not good at cross country but I do love it and I always try my best. there are students at our school who do very well like my sister Grace shes a natural.

As we line up on the starting line every one around me is doing squats, stretches and some are even holding their stomachs. POW! The gun roared and straight away my feet were pounding. mud flicking up at my face from the person in front of me or was it the person behind me?
Prickles and stones, sticks and cones. I was almost there and I heard a pleasant voice. It was a voice of a mum. It was my mum!
GOOOOOO SOPHIE!
A little encouragement was great at the moment.
I was 100m away from the finish line and I rocketed as fast as I could rocket and dived in to the finish shoot.
That day I only had four goals:
1.Have fun
2.Try my best
3.To not fall over
And 4. to beat my last years placing.

I did all of those things

One day on the 20th of June I looked in this funny mirror and I was shaped as a spoon!
Yes I was shaped like a spoon at least in the mirror I was.
Room 23 went into the hall in the last period of school and sat down on the floor. There was three hosts.
They talked to us about the environment and life cycles of animals and other things.
The three hosts said we could go a look around the hall.
I saw some amazing scientific objects and experiments.
My favorite was the cow udder machine.
What you did was put your thumb into the udder sucker and you could feel the movement and the pressure of it.
And it also cuts of your circulation!
I pulled my thumb out and it was sun burn red!
There was this funny mirror and you looked in it and you looked distorted!
so that was all we did there and I had a great time a learnt alot.

Introduction
Matariki is a celebration of the Maori New Year. It’s a time to come together and celebrate the unique place where we live, New Zealand. Matariki is also a cluster of seven. Matariki is sometimes called The Seven Sisters or Pleiades. In Japan they call them Subaru and the world rally car is named after Matariki.

The Celebration
In New Zealand there are all sorts of celebrations around Matariki. Traditional Maori would put up a look out post to watch the rise of Matariki. All Matariki Celebrations are a time to share ideas and learn from each other. All these celebrations will start when the new moon is seen.

World Wide
All over the world Matariki is celebrated all different ways. In Greece there are several different temples facing Pleiades (Matariki). In Japan they call Matariki Subaru. One of the bigger celebrations is in Polynesia. In Polynesia they celebrate Matariki with kites. All Matariki kites have 6 tails. When Matariki had been risen they would know it was time to gather sea food.

The Effect
As the year moves from autumn to winter the sunrise moves north. When the sunrise meets Matariki, it starts moving south again. This effect can be seen all over the world.
